Muzhda Oriakhil – Senior Community Engagement Manager & Advocate
Muzhda Oriakhil is a Certified Childbirth Educator and Certified Postpartum Doula with a background in Law and International Relations, which she studied in her home country, Afghanistan. After moving to the United States in 2014, she experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating a new healthcare system and life as a newcomer—an experience that fueled her passion for supporting refugee and immigrant families.
Since 2015, Muzhda has been a dedicated member of Embrace Refugee Birth Support, a program of the larger non-profit Friends of Refugees, beginning as an interpreter, then serving as a Community Liaison, Community Engagement Manager, and now working as the Senior Community Engagement Manager. In this role, she leads efforts to connect refugee and immigrant families with the resources, education, and advocacy they need to navigate pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care.
Beyond her work with Embrace, Muzhda is a key advocate for refugee rights and well-being in Georgia. She currently chairs the Coalition of Refugee Serving Agencies (CRSA) Georgia, a long-standing advocacy coalition of 28 nonprofit organizations dedicated to empowering refugee communities and improving policies affecting New Americans. In this role, she works alongside community leaders, nonprofits, and stakeholders to strengthen support systems and amplify refugee voices.
